The creation of any device in decoration has a history. You must know that the carpet is one of the most valuable items in any Iranian house. These valuable rugs are now produced in a variety of designs and colors. Let’s read the history of machine-made carpets together.

What is a machine-made carpet?

machine-made carpets are an artificial example of hand-woven carpets and rugs, is woven by machine-made carpet factories and is very different from hand-woven carpets. The price of machine-made carpets is lower than the price of handmade carpets for reasons such as the use of synthetic and inexpensive fibers and speed in the production of textiles. But on the other hand, some of the advantages of machine-made carpets over hand-woven carpets is that the designs are more beautiful, the components are simpler and the price is lower.

Where was the first machine-made carpet woven in Iran?

The first machine-made carpet of Iran was woven in Kashan and its first model dates back to around 1350. It can also be said that it was the first machine-produced carpet in the Middle East. Kashan city, because it was considered the beating heart of the country’s textile industry, had many spinning and weaving factories, which somehow played a leading role in the textile industry in the country. It is worth mentioning that this issue provided an introduction to the weaving of the first machine-made carpet in the country in Kashan city. The first machine with which they were able to produce the first machine-made carpet was a French machine called the Jacquard, made by a Frenchman named Marie Jacquard. The most prominent feature of the most primitive machine-made carpet in Iran was that it was very light, containing short piles, produced with the help of synthetic fibers and also woven with the desired quality. This caused civilization and industry to find their way into carpet weaving and weave it in new ways. Another prominent feature of Kashan’s first machine-made carpet was that it was produced at a very high speed. As you know, it takes a lot of time to weave a hand-woven rug, and it can even take about a month or more. It took a while for people to fit in, so it took time to mass-produce it. At the same time, traders from Belgium imported machine-made carpets of high quality and suitable. This issue caused the purchase of machine-made carpets instead of hand-woven carpets to become popular among the Iranian people. The machine-made carpets that were offered to the market had superior advantages over the hand-woven carpets, which were that they were produced and marketed at a high speed and that they had a cheaper and more suitable price than the hand-woven carpets. The reason for the reasonable price of machine-made carpets was that machine-made carpets were produced in factories with synthetic fibers, which were more reasonably priced than natural fibers, and reached mass production. It is worth mentioning that more investment in this industry caused the city of Kashan to be known as the center of machine-made carpet production in the world, or better to say, the capital of machine-made carpet in the world.

The first carpet weaving machine in Iran

All the accessories in the space around us have their own history. Among these, machine-made carpets in Iran date back to about 50 years ago. As it was said, the first machine-made carpet in Kashan city was woven with jacquard velvet weaving machines and presented to the market. The fibers of these carpets were very shiny and their villi were usually short and light. It was at this time that merchants imported carpets with exactly the same specifications and even higher quality than countries such as Belgium, which were very well received by the people. When the owners of the industry saw the taste and welcome of the people and became aware of it, they decided to invest in the production of machine-made carpets. This issue caused the first machine-made carpet factory to be established by the Lajevardi family under the name of Kashan Industries Company (Ravand Carpet), and thus the first machine-made carpet was produced in 1974 and presented to the Iranian market. Here, too, the evolution of machine-made carpets began in Iran, and one after another, machine-made carpet factories emerged and began to operate.

Designs of the first machine-made carpets

In the following, we must say that the modern and new types of carpets that entered the market were very different from hand-woven carpets, but over time and with increasing density, they succeeded in producing various designs of hand-woven carpets. This means that the initial designs that were implemented on such carpets were basic and very simple, but now we must say that with the help of foreign and modern weaving machines, they have been able to make carpets with different number of reeds, including 700-reeds. Also, produce carpets with different reeds, including; 1000, 1200,1500 and 1700. These types of carpets are also known as hand-woven carpets because the more density and number of combs they have, the more fine-textured they will be, and therefore the designs of hand-woven carpets are easier to implement on them.

Today, Kashan is one of the most popular carpet production factories in Iran and Kashan machine-made carpet is one of the most famous machine-made carpets in the world. Nowadays, more than 1,600 small and large carpet production units have been created that produce and sell machine-made carpets and tablecloths in a variety of colors. It should be noted that the price of machine-made carpets varies widely depending on the type and quality.
